Locations for Beach Weddings
Most couples plan to come to Florida for a simple beach wedding, and think it's as simple as walking out to the shoreline for their nuptials. Laws and regulations have become a bit complicated in some counties regarding beach weddings and vendors.
Many couples plan to have their events at the beach rental they're staying at. It is the responsibility of the bridal couple to obtain permission for a beach wedding at condos, homes, private property, or resorts. Most locations do not have issues, however a few charge extra for events on their property. For those that do charge, there are public beach access points nearby or right next to the resort that can be used.
Please be aware that most resorts, etc. have beach chair and umbrella rentals stretched from one end of their beachfront to the other. We try to time our arrival for decor set up when the rentals are finished for the day, in order to have a convenient center set up (if possible). This helps prevent the couple and guests from a long walk through the sand to the far boundary of the property, where the chairs of the resort they're at ends and the next resorts line of chairs begins. If we are required to arrive early, events with decorations take place to the far right or left side of the property, past the line of chairs- which might possibly be removed by the time the event starts. We will not move the decorations once they are set up. Be prepared to be the center of attention, as many people will be on their balconies watching your event, cheering, etc. Many couples arrive with plans to marry at the resort and then change the location to a more private or natural setting. We don't mind as long as the change is in the same general area within 10 miles, as other events may be scheduled that day.
Currently, Okaloosa and Walton Counties require special considerations to have a beach wedding at their public parks and access points. Any fees associated are to be paid by the couple and will be billed for by Florida Nuptials.
Bay County - Panama City Beach, Laguna Beach, etc.
At this time, Panama City Beach does not require permits or additional fees for less than 50 people. Most couples choose a location once they arrive to the area, and have an opportunity to look around. A permit is required by Bay County for events with 50 or more people at any of the public areas. A permit is not required for events at resorts, etc. where the couple has obtained permission from the property owner or manager.
